Just three hours east of Manhattan along the Sunrise Highway on the very tip of Long Island is Montauk, the New York beach town once the domain of hardy fishermen, fearless surfers – and the summer hangout Andy Warhol and Mick Jagger escaped to in the 70s. New York photographer Ben Watts has owned a cottage on Lake Montauk since 1998 and in his recent photo book, Montauk Dreaming, he uses his trademark high-contrast 90s style to capture the summer spirit of today’s laid-back surfer town and his time there. He keeps it casual, snapping happy his friends, family and favourite places using his iPhone.
