My list of lust-worthy coffee-table books seems to be getting out of control lately and it looks like I’ve another one to add to my shopping trolley…
Angelika Taschen, publisher of all those amazing art books, has returned from her home-town of Berlin to bring us this curated guide to New York’s most beautiful places to stay, eat, drink and shop in. It’s an aspirational read that’s as entertaining as it is useful for both visitors as well as locals, leading the way to places you might not ever have heard of or tried out before, as well as plenty of ever-popular city stalwarts.
The book’s split into four sections with cut-out tabs making it easy to find things and there’s a double-page map at the beginning so you can get a sense of where things are. It also comes with a cool little fold-out map assuming you’d rather not carry the book around in your backpack when you start your search for your favourite places.
If you’re worried this guide is a little glossy and out of your league, you needn’t be. It might look high-brow, but plenty of the places listed are well within reach for the average visitor. Obviously some aren’t, but but hey, there’s no harm in having a little leaf through… if only to imagine where you could stay and dine if you ever did win the Lottery…
If you know any New York-philes in need of a gift (such as yourself), Taschen’s New York is the way to go. You can also have a look at all the other Taschen books in relation to New York on their website.
